This is the first of a series of three small paintings of garden gates in Cyprus, Greece.

Torpedo Onions

I found these unusual onions at the San Francisco Farmers Market, the size and shape of them just looked as though they needed to be in a painting. I finished the painting yesterday and last night one of them simply had to be included in dinner, saute'd and on top of grilled portobello mushrooms stuffed with blue cheese. Also had to include the Mission Figs in the dinner. A real starving artist dinner, eat what you paint.

We vacationed in Cyprus a few years ago and I took hundreds of pictures and did some sketches in the small villages with the idea of one day doing paintings from them. Well now seems to be the right time, this is the first of hopefully many more.
